Deckertring Grand Prix - Deckertring - Theresa, WI
October 9, 2025
Round 4 of 17
(Theresa, WI) -- After making the first three finals of the season and finishing in every position of the final four save the top spot, Mike Lack checked that box at the Deckertring Grand Prix, on the might Deckertring. It was the seven time champion's record extending 58th career victory and launched him to the top of the Husarsbilt Cup standings once again.
Steve Rist opened the night with a quick qualifying run, that saw the #8 FAST Honda-Daboiler pilot break the five-second mark, in fact, the only driver to do so, leading the field ahead of hometown hero John Shea, whose #3 Team PenskeHO Chevrolet-Deboiler tripped the timing strip at 5.001, just .053 of a second behind Rist. Lack would start fourth.
In the opening heat, which saw Shea line up against Rist and FAST teammate Dean Strom and Good Vibes Racing's Joe Heitz, it would be the two FAST guys battling for the lead, with Shea trailing two laps back. Late in the race with Rist and Strom nearly side by side, a slow moving #21 Chevrolet-Daboiler of Joe Heitz would force Strom to take evasive action and lose control briefly, allowing Rist to take the heat and Strom to sit and watch the other two heats to see if his lap total would hold up for the transfer spot. The drama was not only for Strom, but also Heitz who felt responsible.
The middle head saw the two CBD Racing teammates of Bill Black and Pete Dorn running a close battle right to the end, John Wiedemann would struggle with handling taking him out of fight and for the second race in a row the Team PenskeHO would suffer mechanical problems for their Hall of Fame #12 driver Ev Kamikawa. While the Verizon driver and mechanics scratched their heads to determine the problems, Black and Dorn were chasing each other through the Black Forest corners right to the finish, with Black's #7 taking the win, Dorn settling for fifth on the night.
In the final heat, Mike Lack trounced the final CBD Racing car of Brad Core and Good Vibes Racing's Mike Kristof, cruising to the final with the most laps in the heats to grab those two bonus points. As the final heat hit the stripe, Heitz knew he would live, as Strom secured the transfer position.
The final looked much like Lack's heat race, as he led early and often. Lack's FAST teammate Steve Rist would settle into second and the only real battle on the track would be for the third step on the podium, as Black and Strom would trade the spot into the second half, but eventually Black's #7 CBD Racing Chevrolet-Daboiler would step on to the podium. Lack was eight laps up as the checkers flew.
The series heads back to its ancestral home in Wauawatosa in two weeks for the Halloween Havoc at Quarry Heights Raceway.
