Round 5 of 16

2017 Halloween Havoc

Happy Lackoween

(Wauwatosa, WI) -- Quarry Heights Raceway sits in the middle of the Halloween capital of Wauwatosa, the Quarry Height neighborhood goes all out for the holiday and it is obvious that Mike Lack is going all out to dominate this season's Husarsbilt Cup championship. With his third win in the first five races, Lack has taken a 51 point lead over his nearest rival and Angry Squirrel Speedsport teammate John Wiedemann.

The evening began with the third member of Angry Squirrel Speedsport looking like she was going to continue her winning ways, when Amy Butler landed her first pole position of her 16-year career, becoming the first female to be the top qualifier at an IndySlotCar Series race. Following up on her win at the last round at the Slots-A-Fun 400, Butler was grouped with her teammate Lack and hometown hero Matt Hayek, as the heats were chosen by speed. Hayek's snakebitten season continued as he crashed out early to wind up dead-last and send the paying customers home early. Lack would hold off Butler to make his fifth straight final of the season, Amy would wind up fifth on the night. Meanwhile, the third member of A.S.S., John Wiedemann, would have to deal with a resurgent Mike Fitzlaff who battled JW right to the end of the second heat, but Wiedemann would take the win while "Fitz" would transfer into the final. Mike Kristof had a tortoise in qualifying, starting tenth on the grid, but his strategy of slow and steady, won the heat as his car stuck like glue on Quarry Heights twisty bits, while Pete Dorn had a solid run to sixth, Dean Strom and Ev Kamikawa struggled with handling for seventh and eighth place finishes and Bill Black had a tough night ending up tenth.

While Kristof hoped his tortoise and the hare routine would continue for his second final of the season, Lack put the petal down and managed to keep ahead of Kristof's Fitz-Matador Racing teammate Mike Fitzlaff for the victory and his second win of the "Founder's Five" events. Fitz and Kristof were also in the final at the opener and stand second and third in the Founder's Five standings. Wiedemann would finish on the podium but still wonder what it's going to take to slow down his teammate.

It's another 25th season classic next on the calendar has the Turkey Trot at the Infield Road Course at South Shore Superspeedway hosts round six of the championship and round three of the Founder's Five.
