Lack Is Back

Greendale, WI -- The IndySlotCar Series returned to Vegas and Mike Lack returned to victory lane to take the win at the Slots-A-Fun 400 at Stardust Speedway. After missing the final at his home track at the last race, the three-time defending champion chased down current points leader Matt Hayek to squeak out a one lap win and get back to the winner's circle for the first time since the Shrine Cup last March.

Lack managed to make it into the final through the transfer spot after losing his heat race to Hayek. The two would battle it out again in the 400 lap final on the D-shaped oval. MaD Motorsports scored first on the night with the Chick-fil-A Brookfield P1 Award, Hayek's #15 Dallara-Honda would set a new event record with a 7.943 second qualifying time, Lack would start next to him on the front row, but a half second slower. Hayek cruised to an easy win in their heat race together, but Lack's lap total held up allowing him to advance to his second final of the season.

Again Hayek would take the advantage as the final started and led deep into the race, but some late handling problems allowed the champ's #1 JAM Racing Dallara-Honda to get to the point and hold on to take his first win of the season and leap from eighth to fourth in the points while Hayek's second place finish would allow him to expand his points advantage over Dan Margetta to 21 from 12 after Margetta missed the final to finish fifth. Lack's JAM Racing teammate John Wiedemann had a solid third place finish, but was never a factor for the win and Spehert Autospot's Tom Spehert would have his car expire at half way while in the pits, it was the #28 car's second final and second time the car would die at the break.

Defending race-winner Amy Butler finished ahead of Target Fitz Ganassi Racing's Mike Kristof, sixth and seventh respectively was the best finish this season for both veteran drivers who are looking to get this season started yet. Spehert Autosport's Pete Dorn would continue to struggle to figure out the short oval to wind up eighth, while his teammates, Chris Spehert and Bill Black would join Tom as drivers classified with a DNF crashing out early to finish tenth and eleventh respectively. Mike Fitzlaff would split up that team's trio with a ninth place night. Penske HO Racing's other driver Ev Kamikawa coming off a scary head injury went out early, crashing to a twelfth place.

After two ovals in the first four races, the IndySlotCar tour heads to the twisty Quarry Heights Raceway for the Halloween Havoc. The first of five road courses in a row starts in two weeks.
